The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce honored several community leaders Nov. 4 during a Celebrate Community Gala held Nov. 4 at the Four Points by Sheraton at the Baltimore-/Washington International Airport. Elizabeth Smith, an emergency medical technician and a member of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company, received the Firefighter of the Year award. Smith is also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Gregory Simmons, a police officer in the county's Western District, received the Police Officer of the Year award. Simmons has been a member of the police department since April 2002. Michele Goodman received the Sheriff's Deputy of the Year award. Goodman is assigned to the courts and facilities division of the sheriff's office in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. Fran Korwek, a certified public accountant with Korwek, Posey and Associates, received the Business Leader of the Year award. Korwek is a founder of the Rotary Club of West Anne Arundel County, a sponsor of Relay for Life and a member of the Odenton Heritage Society.
