Lorton Community Action Center needs volunteers to help with the holiday outreach program Dec. 19 through 22. Food and gift items will be collected for needy children and families. Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) needs volunteers from diverse backgrounds to act as advocates for children whose families have been cited for abuse and neglect by the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Training is provided to prepare volunteers to investigate a child's situation and advocate in court for the child's best interests. No experience in child welfare is required. Vienna Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a "Stockings for Soldiers" campaign to help brighten the holidays for U.S. troops stationed at Camp Victory South in Iraq. Requested items include phone cards, CDs, DVDs, trail mix, hard candy, magazines, hand sanitizers, beef jerky and baby wipes. Donations will be accepted through Nov. 28 at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. SE, or at Vienna Town Hall, 127 Center St. S. For more information, call 703-255-6360.
