Reservoir's volleyball team became the three-year-old school's first squad to earn a region title by rallying for a 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-11 victory over visiting Atholton in the Maryland 2A South Region tournament final Friday.

Reservoir (13-5) faced defending state champion Liberty (14-0) in a state semifinal match that was completed too late to be included in this edition. Atholton, denied its first region title since 1996, finished the season 11-6.

"Winning the first region title is definitely a big deal for us and our school," senior setter Ashley Stoneman said. "We talked about how there was nothing hanging on the walls of our gym, and our goal was to be the first team to be able to put a banner up there."
