Pet Dove in Need of a Manicure

MIDDLEBURG, South Pendleton Street, Nov. 9. An animal control officer responded to reports of a pet dove with an inadequate perch and very long claws. The officer told the owner to trim the bird's claws and to provide a larger perch.

Pit Bull Makes Unwanted Visit

LOVETTSVILLE, Morrisonville Road, Nov. 9. A woman reported that a pit bull was trying to get into her home. An animal control officer found a white male pit bull on the woman's front steps and took it to the animal shelter, where it was claimed by its owner.

Owner Gives Up Several Cats

PURCELLVILLE, Short Hill Road, Nov. 10. An animal control officer responded to a report of 14 cats that were not being cared for properly. The officer found several and spoke with their owner, who agreed to surrender them. Six cats were trapped and taken to the shelter.

Sick Raccoon Euthanized

LEESBURG, Balls Bluff Road, Nov. 12. A man reported a sick raccoon in his front yard. An animal control officer found an adult raccoon having convulsions and took it to the shelter, where it was euthanized.

Lab Found in Fine Shape

ASHBURN, Choptank Terrace, Nov. 12. An animal control officer responded to a report of a dog being kept outside day and night without shelter. The officer found a healthy Labrador retriever being kept inside.
