D'Avonna Evans of Hyattsville was chosen to participate in the 2005 NASA Summer High School Apprenticeship Research Program. Evans is one of 400 students nationwide who will spend eight weeks at the University of New Mexico as a paid apprentice.

The program aims to increase participation by underrepresented students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

Evans is a student at Archbishop Carroll High School in the District.

Maryland State Sen. Gwendolyn T. Britt (D-Prince George's), Prince George's County Sheriff Michael Jackson and Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn F. Ivey will speak at a domestic violence panel discussion from 8:30 to 11 a.m. June 17 at Marlborough Golf Club.
