For the second time in about three months, a 6-year-old girl has been molested inside a Toys R Us store in Fairfax County, and police said yesterday that they are investigating whether the same man is responsible for both attacks.

The most recent incident occurred last Saturday afternoon, inside the Toys R Us store in the 5500 block of Leesburg Pike in the Baileys Crossroads area.

The girl had walked away from her babysitter and was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately, Fairfax police said.

The babysitter intervened and moved the girl away from the man.

Fairfax police spokeswoman Mary Mulrenan said the girl did not immediately tell her parents what had happened.

When the girl reported the incident, her parents first contacted police in Maryland, where the girl lives, Mulrenan said. Fairfax investigators became aware of the case late Thursday. Police did not release specifics of the attack but described it as "an aggravated sexual battery."

On Feb. 19, a 6-year-old girl reported being sexually assaulted in the Toys R Us store in the Fair Lakes area of Fairfax. The girl told police that she had gone to the restroom in the store and was confronted by a man who touched her inappropriately.

No one has been arrested in that incident.

In both cases, the suspect was described as a thin white man of average height. The victim in the February incident said the man had a mustache.

"We're looking at the possibility that it's the same person," Mulrenan said.

Beth Swanson, a Toys R Us spokeswoman, said, "The safety of our guests is of the highest priority to us, and we're cooperating fully with the police as they look into this matter."
