Athlete of the Year

Amy Bilmanis, Thomas Stone, Sr.

Bilmanis ends her career as one of the most accomplished throwers in Maryland history. The two-time All-Met and reigning national discus champion won her fourth state title with a throw of 149 feet 8 inches. Her season best of 159-3, thrown at the Howard County Track Festival, was the best throw in Maryland by almost 34 feet and best in the D.C. area by more than 20 feet. She will compete for Virginia next year.

Coach of the Year

DiDi Huber, McDonough

The Rams may not have had the stars of other Southern Maryland Athletic Conference teams, but Huber's squad was able to pull out an impressive team victory at the SMAC meet. Led by multi-event star Ashley Thompson, the Rams scored 72 points, edging Great Mills's 56. At the 3A South Region meet, McDonough finished a close second, with 84 points to Severna Park's 88.

First Team

Aunye Boone, Calvert, Fr.

The freshman did not disappoint in the 2A state meet, taking second in both the 100 and the 200. She was the 2A South Region champ in the 200.

Tonya Walton, Lackey, Sr.

Won the 3A South Region title in both the 100 and 200 meters. She was third place in both the 100 and 200 in the SMAC meet.

Favia Merritt, Great Mills, Sr.

Swept the sprints at the SMAC meet -- winning the 100, 200 and 400 to lead her team to second place overall. She was seventh in 4A in the 400.

Keely Murphy, Northern, Jr.

Had a breakout season, becoming one of Maryland's best outdoor runners. She broke the school record in the 1,600 five times, capped by a 5 minutes 2.5 seconds performance to take second in 3A.

Alison Parris, Patuxent, Jr.

Set a meet record of 2:15.8 in capturing the SMAC championship in the 800 meters. She took eighth in the state in the 800.

Megan Tatum, Westlake, Jr.

Tatum swept the hurdles at the SMAC meet, winning the 100 in 15 seconds and the 300 in 45.6. Was a state qualifier in the 300.

Ashley Thompson, McDonough, Jr.

Thompson was the 3A state champion in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet 2. She was fourth in the state in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 2.
