Athlete of the Year

Corryl Boyd, Westlake, Soph.

The All-Extra athlete of the year for indoor track continued his rise during the outdoor season. Boyd won two 3A state championships -- the long jump and 400-meter dash -- and finished second in the 200. He finished the outdoor season as the Washington area's leader in both the triple jump (47 feet 31/4 inches at the 3A South Region meet) and the long jump (23-101/2).

Coach of the Year

Beth Shook, Westlake

Led a deep but largely inexperienced Wolverines team to the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference title. The squad -- with one major senior contributor and a large core of freshmen -- scored 125 points, almost 40 points better than any other team. In the regional meet, the Wolverines were even more dominant, scoring 146 points to Northern's second-place 72. Westlake finished third in the state.

At the 3A South Region championships, Anderson pulled off first places in a difficult triple: the 800 (1 minute 58.9 seconds), 1,600 (4:28.2) and 3,200 (9:55.9).

Rashaad Guy, Westlake, Sr.

Finished second in the 3A South Region in the 300-meter hurdles. He was the SMAC champion in the 100 hurdles and took fourth in the SMAC in the 300 hurdles.
