Group Home Opened
Van Metre Cos. has opened a group home in Stone Ridge for five Loudoun County adults with mental disabilities. The construction of the group home fulfills a commitment the developer made to the county during zoning proceedings for Stone Ridge.
The 3,000-square-foot single-family house has six bedrooms, including one designed for wheelchair accessibility, five bathrooms and communal living space.
Band to Entertain Troops
The Jenny Boyle Band is heading overseas again to entertain U.S. troops and diplomats.
The local band, which visited the Middle East last year under the Defense Department program Armed Forces Entertainment, is scheduled to travel Friday to Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Later in the month the band will head to Italy, Greece, Spain, Turkey and Jordan.
The band is made up of lead singer Jenny Boyle of Springfield, drummer Sean Bradley of Herndon, guitarist Josh Burgess of Waterford, bass guitarist Jeff Reed of Baltimore and guitarist Chris Roque of Baltimore. The band's manager is Gabe Gawen of Fairfax City.
The band, which plays rock songs from the last several decades, also has performed at "Tuesdays for Troops" at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.
Car Show to Close Streets
On Saturday from 5 to 10:30 p.m., King Street in Leesburg will be closed from Loudoun to North streets to accommodate the Leesburg Custom Cruisers Car Show. Market Street will be closed from Church to Wirt streets. The rain date is June 25.
