Coaches of the Year

Mike Johnson, Huntingtown

After winning four state titles at Northern, Johnson started the Hurricanes' program with players from three schools and, in two months, molded them into Maryland 3A champions. It was the first time a first-year softball program won a state title, and Johnson became the second coach in state history to win championships at two schools.

Frank Moore, Calvert

With two returning starters, yet enormous expectations, Moore guided the Cavaliers to the Maryland 2A title, their fifth in his 22 seasons. Calvert became the first school -- and Moore the first coach -- to win state titles in three classifications, adding to a 1997 4A crown and 3A championships in 1992, '93 and '98.
