Deliberations to Begin Testimony concluded yesterday in the Montgomery County murder trial of a former deputy U.S. marshal, and both sides gave closing arguments.

Jurors are to begin deliberating today on the fate of Arthur L. Lloyd, 54. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ryan T. Stowers, 20, a Navy seaman who died Oct. 29 after Lloyd shot him at the Mid-Pike Plaza on Rockville Pike.

Barry Helfand, Lloyd's attorney, told jurors in closing arguments last night that Lloyd acted in self-defense when he fired his service weapon into Stowers's car. Deputy Montgomery State's Attorney John McCarthy told jurors that Lloyd shot Stowers in the back as Stowers drove away after the two got in a fight in front of dozens of witnesses.

Bank Robbery A man with a bandana covering his face robbed a bank in Reston yesterday morning, then fled on a red motor scooter, Fairfax County police said.

The man walked into the BB&T bank branch at 2513 Fox Mill Rd. about 10:30 a.m., wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses above his bandana. Police said he implied that he had a gun, but never showed one, and demanded money. A teller handed him an undisclosed amount of cash, and he jumped on the scooter and was last seen on Pinecrest Road, police said.
