U-13 BOYS

SAC United Classic I

United Classic I won the recent Bull Run Challenge tournament. The team tied VSA Heat, 2-2, and defeated VBSC Pythons, 3-2, and ODSC Force, 1-0, to advance to the championship. United Classic I won the title game against CYA Thunder, 3-1. David Lucas, Bobby Driggers, Jimmy Peterson, Rusty Barnes, Alex Dove and Zach Novia scored during the tournament, and Anthony Boccio, Driggers, Lucas, Taylor Teodosio, Kevin Leikin and Shane Reybold had assists.

U-15 BOYS

Columbia Soccer Club Galaxy

Galaxy won its division of the Virginian Tourney, going undefeated against teams from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Germany. Galaxy finished the regular season in first place and will advance to Division 2 of the NCSL next season.

In the first game of a doubleheader, Cody Jaeger drove in three runs with two hits. Joey Burke had two hits and two RBI. Adam Green added an RBI triple. Ryan Toland and Kevin McDowell had strong pitching performances. In the second game, Thomas Solomon and Adam Green combined on a three-hit shutout. Joe Kolodrubetz drove in six runs with a homer and two singles. Green delivered two hits and three RBI. Teddy Trapuzzano added a double and RBI, and Toland added his second triple of the day. Jake True, Justin Garber, Joey Burke and Jaeger also had RBI hits.

The Maryland Red Dogs finished second at the Maryland Cardinals Memorial Day Tournament. In five games, the Red Dogs knocked out 53 hits, by Ross Ryan (7), Danny Caddigan (7), Jordan Thompson (6), T.J. Pipik (6), Kory Britton (6), Brandon Estrain (5), Justin Razmic (5), Scott Heydrick (5), Kyle Hamby (4) and Zachary Scott (2). Thompson threw a no-hitter, and Hamby, Britton, Razmic, Pipik, Zachary Stup and Estrain pitched well.

UNC vs. USC

UNC's Willow Allen, Amanda Requa and Mairin Toppo made strong defensive plays in a league in which no scores are kept. USC's Anna Geier and Eileen Mee combined for three putouts. Kayla Grose and Julianne Hussman each had multiple hits.

UNC vs. Washington

Kaitlyn Brummell had six hits and scored five runs. Margaret Heck and Jessica Hopkins each had four hits, and Kathryn Peterson made two outs in the field. UNC's Jordon Travisano and Madison Worrell each had four hits. Marianna Hertel and Amanda Requa led the defense.

Stanford's Carli White fielded a popup to end a bases-loaded rally, and Shannon Farley played nice defense. Sarah Calvert hit a hard shot. Allison Wilson hit a line-drive single to load the bases. UNC's Grayson Corbett, Heidi Larsen and Katie Judd each had three hits, and Amanda Oswald made a terrific backhanded play at shortstop.

Virginia pitchers Kasey Smith and Kristen Bilney gave up just one run each. Nicole Malen played strong defense and had a hit. Julie Price threw out a runner at second base to stop a UCLA rally. UCLA catcher Maddy Birus made several fine defensive plays, Taylor Baldwin was strong at the plate and closer Taylor Bond pitched well.

Stanford's Kaili Offenbacher made a double play at second after catching a pop fly. Catcher Valerie Grove made three putouts on attempted steals at home in the third inning. Danielle Walker had a double. UNC catcher Marisa Goldsmith threw to Danielle Schiavone at second to tag out a runner trying to steal the base. Polly Adhya pitched three no-hit innings, and Meghan McNeil made two unassisted outs at first base.

Georgia Tech's Kelly Brown and Bruke Mikesell teamed to throw out a runner at home. Cassie Commarota slid home on a steal, and Mandy Hanlon had a strong day at shortstop. For Stanford, Lauren Gordon had two hits, Kristina Jackson hit a home run and Brianna Montgomery made several fine fielding plays.

Stanford's Chris Snyder pitched three fine innings, and Amanda Moynihan and Tessa Bowman delivered clutch hits. For UNC, Zoe Ledbetter had a two-RBI hit, Hannah Keyes bunted for a triple, and Emily Dow doubled and scored the tying run in the bottom of the last inning.

UNC's Chelsea Croft pitched two fine innings, Kathy Thornton and Martese Hoffman combined on a run-down play, and Michelle Lawrence made two fine plays. UCLA's Chelsea Thompson stole a base, then scored on a hit by Christina Fuji. Fuji struck out two batters and fielded a grounder. Cathy Reid had an RBI base hit.

Kathy Thornton pitched two scoreless innings and had five strikeouts for UNC. She also hit a home run and scored three runs. Michelle Lawrence had a clutch hit, and Elise Crawford stole home. For UCLA, Cathy Reid hit a single and home run. Shannon Vogan made fine offensive and defensive contributions.

Missy Barber pitched four strong innings and had a double and a triple for USC. Catcher Kate Calvert threw a runner out at third, and Gwen Kokes made four big plays in the field. For UNC, Mina Park made two nice catches, and Kelsey Prucha-Mitchell had a triple and stole home. Martese Hoffman hit a bases-loaded double.
