Soccer Clinic

The Arundel Soccer Association will host a DC United Summer Soccer Series clinic Sunday at Waugh Chapel Elementary School in Odenton. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the clinic starts at 1. Anne Arundel Community College freshman catcher Danielle Martinez of Glen Burnie was selected to the Division III all-America first team by the National Junior College Athletic Association and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Martinez, a graduate of North County High, was also named Diamond Sporting Goods catcher of the year, hitting .613 with 56 RBI.

Four other freshman were picked for the NFCA all-America teams. Shortstop Amber Stapler (.441 30 runs, 25 RBI) from Glen Burnie High and outfielder Amy Bush (.331, 38 runs, 7 RBI.) from Broadneck High were named to the first team.

Infielder Ashley Kimble (.430, 29 RBI), a graduate of Queen Anne's High, and designated hitter Cortnie Higgins (.430, 32 RBI) from Annapolis Area Christian earned spots on the second team. Higgins pitched and played second base.

Teams Get Their Grades

Annapolis High School recently announced that its girls' varsity lacrosse team finished with an average weighted grade-point average of 4.03, the highest of all spring sports teams at Annapolis. Overall, spring athletes finished with a 3.52 average GPA.

Other team GPAs were tennis (3.82), varsity boys' lacrosse (3.58), varsity softball (3.58), junior varsity boys' lacrosse (3.57), girls' track and field (3.52), junior varisty girls' lacrosse (3.48), varsity baseball (3.37), junior varsity baseball (3.36), gymnastics (3.19) and boys' track and field (3.18).

Members of the varsity girls' lacrosse team were Alexandra Bayline, Cara Cerone, Chrissy Creadick, Jaleesa Crankfield, Liz Cumberpatch, Lindsay Evans, Lauren Gleason, Becky Green, Leah Hummer, Jenna Jorgensen, Casey Lean, Sarah Maggio, Jackie Marshall, Erica Mihm, Kacie Minner, Cia Pantelides, Kaitlin Pasko, Charlotte Schou, Amy Yatsuk and Shannon Young.
