Fauquier Names Middle School Principal
Fauquier County Schools Superintendent J. David Martin announced at the School Board meeting Monday that Steven Parker, an assistant principal at Warren County Middle School in Front Royal, will become principal of Cedar Lee Middle School in Bealeton on July 1.
Parker replaces Mary Barton, who is retiring. Parker, 40, a native of Carrollton, Tex., has a bachelor's of science degree in national security and public affairs from West Point; a master's of business administration from the Florida Institute of Technology; and a master's of education from George Mason University.
Free Taxi Rides Offered on Fourth of July
The Washington Regional Alcohol Program will offer free taxi rides in eastern Loudoun County through its Independence Day SoberRide program from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. July 3 and 4. Residents who have been drinking can call 800-200-TAXI for a ride home up worth up to $50.
The Fourth of July is the second-deadliest holiday after Thanksgiving when it comes to drunken driving, said Kurt Gregory Erickson, WRAP's president.
"In 2003, nearly six out of 10 of the fatal traffic crashes on Independence Day were alcohol related," he said. "More people were killed by drunk drivers on July Fourth than during the New Year's holiday, St. Patrick's Day and Super Bowl Sunday holidays combined."
