All-Met and all-state selection anchored a defense that posted 15 shutouts.

Northwestern Region player of the year scored 13 goals and added two assists to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 20-1-1 record, which included Cedar Run District and region titles.

Will play for American University.

Boys' Coach of the Year

Larry Nemerow, Osbourn Park

In his 13th season, led the Yellow Jackets to a 20-1-1 record, the Virginia AAA quarterfinals and a No. 3 ranking in the Post poll.

The 2001 All-Met coach of the year switched to a four-defender alignment this season, a move that led to the team allowing only nine goals in 22 games en route to district and region championships.

Boys' First Team

F Alex Foskett, Osbourn Park, Soph. -- Scored eight goals and added seven assists for Cedar Run District champions. Also played outside midfield.

F Ernesto Marquez, Woodbridge, Sr. -- Speedy, crafty striker scored 12 goals, added three assists and was named All-Met. Will attend Virginia.

F John Painter, Gar-Field, Jr. -- All-region first-teamer moved from defender to forward and had 12 goals and five assists to help lead Indians to state quarterfinals.

MF Jon Chapman, Woodbridge, Jr. -- First-team all-Northwestern Region selection captained the Vikings. Scored three goals and had 11 assists.

MF Tommy DiNuzzo, Osbourn Park, Sr. -- All-region first-teamer scored six goals and had 13 assists for state quarterfinalists. Will play for the University of Mary Washington.

MF Jimmy Hash, Forest Park, Sr. -- Cardinal District player of the year had five goals and 12 assists and was named all-state and all-region. Will play for Christopher Newport.

MF Tim Pittman, Osbourn, Sr. -- Cedar Run District player of the year was named All-Met, all-state and all-region. Scored 15 goals. Will play for Coastal Carolina.

MF Alex Silver, Forest Park, Jr. -- Second-team all-region pick scored seven goals and added eight assists for Cardinal District champions.

MF Christopher Tait, Brentsville, Jr. -- Led Virginia AA Tigers with 13 goals to earn first-team all-Region II honors.

D Freddie Ventura, Osbourn, Sr. -- Repeat All-Extra had five goals and five assists and earned first-team all-region honors. Will play for Shenandoah University.

GK David Meiklejohn, Forest Park, Jr. -- Athletic keeper helped lead Bruins to Cardinal District title and Northwestern Region semifinals. Named to all-region first team.
