Sounds Like Summer

Three free summer music series begin this week. Concerts in the Park at Watkins Regional Park begins at 7 tonight with a performance by rhythm and blues vocalist Teri S. Future and continue every Thursday through Aug. 11. The shows will feature funk, reggae, zydeco, jazz and blues. The park is at 301 Watkins Park Dr. in Upper Marlboro, 301-218-6700. At 7:30 p.m. on Fridays through Aug. 12, the Montpelier Summer Concert Series will be held on the Montpelier Mansion grounds. Almost Recess, an a capella quintet, will perform tomorrow. The series will feature concert band, classic jazz and 1960s music. The mansion is at Route 197 and Muirkirk Road in Laurel, 301-953-7882. Riversdale House Museum's monthly Summer Music on the Portico series opens at 7 p.m. Wednesday with a concert by Project Natale, a duo that combines Caribbean, Cuban, Brazilian and American jazz. Have Tent, Will Act

The Tent Troupe, a traveling theater group based at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, is making trips to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana this summer. But first it will set up its big top in Laurel. At 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, the company will perform Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's comedy "You Can't Take It With You," winner of the 1936 Pulitzer Prize. Also, at 1:45 p.m. Monday, the group will unveil an original interactive children's show, "Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!" Montpelier Mansion, Route 197 and Muirkirk Road, Laurel. Surratt House Twilight Tour

John Wilkes Booth, the Surratt family and the intrigue surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln will loom large during Saturday's twilight tour of the Surratt House Museum. Costumed guides will lead visitors through the 1852 farmhouse, which served as a tavern and post office before gaining notoriety as a stop on Booth's ill-fated escape through Southern Maryland. Admission to the two-hour tour, which starts at 6 p.m., is $1; children 4 and younger, free. The museum is at 9118 Brandywine Rd., Clinton. 301-868-1121.
