The following organizations need volunteer help for a day, for a week or on a regular basis.

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Auxiliary needs adult volunteers to help in its thrift shop at Fairfax Circle. Volunteers will receive and evaluate merchandise, operate the cash register, set up displays, assist customers and perform other duties. A commitment of one, three-hour shift a week for at least three months is requested. For more information, call 703-391-3659.

Black Women United for Action needs volunteers to help plan a recognition day for families in a federally subsidized housing project where the group provides mentoring, tutoring, and cultural enrichment activities and workshops. The day will recognize some of the residents' accomplishments, including graduation, starting school, good report cards and awards. The Centreville Planning Committee needs volunteers to help with activities for Centreville Day on Sept. 17. Centreville Day is a family event with entertainment, refreshments, games, a craft sale, tours, and information about historic and current community facts and businesses. The American Red Cross needs blood services volunteer ambassadors to greet donors, provide them with reading materials, serve refreshments and observe donors for post-donation reactions to giving blood. Training is provided. Volunteers must be 14 or older and must commit to two or more blood drives each month. Blood drives last 4-6 hours and are held daily throughout the area.
