ON THE MALL: An Independence Day parade begins at 11:45 a.m., proceeding west along Constitution Avenue NW from Seventh Street to 17th Street. The 39th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the National Mall, featuring dance, song, food, crafts and more. Fireworks launched from the grounds of the Reflecting Pool, 9:10 p.m. Use of Metro is advised. 202-619-7222.

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT: The National Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Erich Kunzel, performs at 8 p.m. on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Barry Bostwick hosts the concert, which features performances by Gloria Estefan, the Beach Boys, the O'Jays and others. Blankets or lawn chairs suggested. 229TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE: A celebration of the nation's 229th birthday at the Rotunda of the National Archives Building, on Constitution Avenue between Seventh and Ninth streets NW. Includes a 10 a.m. reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Constitution Avenue steps of the National Archives Building, followed by a patriotic musical performance, a video presentation and more. AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM CONCERT: The U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants perform patriotic music at the seventh annual Independence Day Concert, 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the first floor of the west end in the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, Seventh Street and Independence Avenue SW.
