With the summer in full swelter mode, a chance for people to get their feet wet will come during Waterman's Sunday, which begins at 1 p.m. at the Captain Salem Avery House. A retired waterman will preside over activities including a children's oyster tonging and culling session, tours of the Salem Avery House and an opportunity to make sailors valentines. The Annapolis Maritime Museum's draketail boat, the Peg Wallace, will be on hand. Waterman's Sunday is part of the Maritime Heritage celebration at several sites in the Four Rivers Heritage Area. Jousting at St. Margaret's
In an annual event that dates to the Civil War era at St. Margaret's Church, knights and maidens compete to catch rings on their lances as their steeds gallop through a series of arches. Additional activities include a craft bazaar, pony rides, games and home-baked goodies. The opening ceremony for the joust begins with the Charging of the Knights at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
