Sex Discussion Workshop
A seminar for parents on talking to children about sex will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Owen Brown Community Center, 6800 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.
"Sex and Sensibility: The Thinking Parent's Guide to Talking Sense About Sex" will be led by Deborah Roffman, an author and family life educator who lives in Baltimore. The discussion will include how to handle questions about sex and sexuality, how to combat unhealthful societal influences and how parents can communicate their values to their children. The event is sponsored by the Parent Encouragement Program, a community-based nonprofit group.
Admission is $28. For information and to register, call 301-929-8824 or visit www.parentencouragement.org.
Fitness Centers to Expand
The Columbia Athletic Club and the Supreme Sports Club will each be closed for about a month this summer so the Columbia Association can expand the clubs' entrances, child-care areas, main exercise rooms and Package Plus Plan areas and add a new Cardio Theatre at both sites.
The Athletic Club, which will be closed from Tuesday until Aug. 7, also will get a new yoga room, an expanded international-size squash court and a new hot-water therapy pool.
The Supreme Sports Club, to be closed from Aug. 15 through Sept. 12, also is expected to add a new 1,600-square-foot exercise and cycling studio. During the period the Supreme Sports Club is closed, the Columbia Gym will be available 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
