Montgomery County police have charged a 50-year-old man with sexually abusing two boys, ages 13 and 14, videotaping them nude and selling the video and other pornographic materials on the Internet.
Investigators suspect that Michael James Rinehart of Montgomery Village victimized many other youths, said Officer Julia Gilroy, a police spokeswoman. Detectives uncovered about 100,000 pornographic images from Rinehart's home in the 18400 block of Bishopstone Court, Gilroy said.
Rinehart began abusing the boys at least a year ago, according to documents filed in Montgomery District Court. He showed them pornography, took nude photographs of them "on numerous occasions" and sold the pictures on the Internet, charging documents state.
According to the documents, Rinehart paid the 14-year-old for appearing nude in a video last summer, then paid the boy again in November. Rinehart later persuaded the 13-year-old boy to also appear in a video. That boy later told police he participated in as many as five such "video shoots" and was paid about $75 for each, documents state.
Rinehart was charged Wednesday afternoon with two counts of child abuse, two counts of soliciting child pornography and two counts of third-degree sex offense.
Montgomery District Court Judge Louis D. Harrington yesterday ordered him held in the Montgomery jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Rinehart has lived at the Bishopstone Court address since summer 2003.
