Man Charged in Attack
A Sterling man has been charged in connection with a machete attack last Sunday at a home in Leesburg.
Augustin Ayala, 24, was charged with domestic assault and battery and malicious wounding.
Leesburg police were called to the 100 block of Cherry Lane NE shortly before 4 a.m. According to police, witnesses said they saw Ayala force his way into the home and assault his 24-year-old girlfriend, the homeowner, 59, and the homeowner's son, 25. Police said the homeowner was treated at Inova Loudoun Hospital for injuries to his arms not caused by the machete. His son's hands were cut when he tried to grab the machete from Ayala, and the wounds were treated at the scene. The girlfriend had minor injuries.
There was no indication the attack was gang related, police said.
Ayala was jailed in Loudoun County without bail.
