Shirley Perry of Galesville received the Jack Harden Community Champion Award, which is given to a Neighborhood Leadership Academy graduate who is a leader and motivator in his or her spiritual, residential and work communities. The scholarship was established in 2000. As the award recipient, Perry gets a full-tuition scholarship to attend Leadership Anne Arundel's flagship program in September. Nomination forms are available for newly established mentoring awards sponsored by the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel County Mentoring Roundtable. The award categories are: school-based mentoring, business-based mentoring, faith-based mentoring, community-based mentoring and mentor of the year. The nomination forms must be postmarked no later than Aug. 16. Instructions and criteria for nominations are listed on the forms. Award winners will be announced Sept. 16 at the Mentoring Fair at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold.
