BUTTERFLY CENSUS

The count is held in conjunction with the North American Butterfly Association's national annual census, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, the Forge at Airlie Center, 7078 Airlie Rd., Warrenton (off Route 605). Participate for the day, or just the morning or afternoon hunt. Bring a bag lunch (bottled water and beverages provided), hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. 70TH ANNUAL LOUDOUN COUNTY FAIR

From Monday through July 30, see cows, horses, pigs, bunnies and a pig-kissing event. SUMMER DOG DAYS, PLUS CATS

The Rock-O-Plane is a popular ride at the Loudoun County Fair, which begins Monday and runs through July 30. The fair will feature carnival rides, food, crafts, a petting zoo, rodeo, livestock auction, mechanical bull and greased pig scramble. On the fair's final night, the winner of a fundraising contest will get to kiss a pig.
