Body Found 4 Days After Leap

Authorities on Wednesday recovered the body of a Waldorf woman who jumped into the Potomac River from the Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge last weekend.

About 3:23 p.m. on July 16, witnesses said, a woman later identified as Natalie Michelle Cook, 35, abandoned her 2003 Mercury on the Route 301 bridge and jumped to her death, said Cpl. Pamela Thorne, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

Cook's body was found when it washed onto the beach at Morgantown and was recovered by the Natural Resources Police, Thorne said.

Arrest in Fondling Case

St. Mary's County authorities on Friday morning arrested a Lexington Park man who is accused of fondling two 14-year-old girls multiple times over the past few months.

Fitzroy Anthony Watson, 38, was arrested at his home. He has been charged with two counts of sexually abusing a minor and two counts of a fourth-degree sex offense, according to the St. Mary's Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

Cpl. William Rosado, bureau spokesman, said that over a period of months Watson picked the girls up from their homes several times and took them to his Lexington Park home for a few hours. Once there, Rosado said, Watson touched the girls inappropriately.

The two girls were not related to Watson, Rosado said, but they knew him from the neighborhood.

Watson was arrested after the girls made allegations to the police, Rosado said.

Man, 77, Charged With Rape

Two charges have been brought against a Pennsylvania man who St. Mary's County authorities say sexually assaulted his traveling companion.

Robert Hoban, 77, was charged with one count of second-degree rape and one count of a third-degree sex offense, said Cpl. William Rosado of the St. Mary's Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

The incident that led to the charges took place Wednesday night at the Sleep Inn & Suites on Three Notch Road in California, Md., Rosado said.

Hoban was in St. Mary's on business and was traveling with a 37-year-old woman. The two went out for "dinner and some beers," Rosado said.

They went back to the same room at the Sleep Inn. Later that night, the woman woke up to find Hoban on top of her "performing sex on her," Rosado said. He said the woman also is not a resident of St. Mary's County.

Hoban was arrested and was held at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
