The South Anne Arundel County Dance Conservatory placed second in the dance theater category at the New Prague Dance Festival. Davis Hobdy and Ken Armstrong, directors of the school, performed "I Saw a Man," choreographed by Michele Manley Hanlon. The piece was based on a poem by Stephen Crane. The festival, held July 1-7, takes place annually in Prague and features workshops, master classes and performances by classical and modern dance companies from around the world.
Annapolis-based Crosby Marketing Communications won 11 Best in Maryland awards from the state chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The company won the Best in Show award for "One Nation Free From Poverty," an informational campaign for the nonprofit Catholic Campaign for Human Development. "One Nation Free From Poverty" also received first place in the public service programs category. The company won first place in the categories for brochures, direct mail, public service announcements (for both radio and television), audio/video programs and editorial columns. It won awards of excellence in the direct mail, CD-ROM/DVD and research/evaluation categories. Crosby Marketing provides advertising, public relations, direct response and graphic design services for regional and national organizations.
