School Supplies Drive

Runs Through Aug. 9

Prepare for Success is collecting school supplies for its annual distribution to needy local students. The drive continues until Aug. 9.

Donations can be brought to boxes throughout the county, including Howard County government office buildings, county libraries, Columbia village centers and Columbia Association sites, the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Magellan Health Services (5565 Sterrett Pl., Suite 500, Columbia), and Long and Foster's Clarksville office (12702 Route 108).

Needed supplies include backpacks, eight- and 24-pack crayons, highlighters, zipper pouches, subject dividers, composition books, three-hole lined paper, erasable pens, No. 2 pencils, spiral notebooks, glue sticks, blunt scissors, red pens, folders, pencil boxes and rulers.

County Library Celebrates

National Night Out Tuesday

The Howard County Library will celebrate the 22nd annual National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the East Columbia Branch Library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, Columbia. The event is a crime prevention partnership between the police and community. Activities will include a volksmarch, entertainment, story times, balloons, food and drink, contests, prizes and safety demonstrations. For more information, call 410-313-7700.
