Bank Robberies The man who robbed a SunTrust Bank branch in the Friendship Heights area yesterday may have committed three other recent bank robberies in the area, police said.

Montgomery County police and the FBI are investigating. The robber is described as a black man, 5 feet 9 inches to six feet tall, with a medium build and curly, close-cropped hair. He was wearing a mustard-yellow shirt and dark pants.

The man entered the bank in the 4400 block of Willard Avenue about 11:15 a.m., announced the robbery and demanded cash. After getting an undisclosed amount of money, he fled on foot toward Wisconsin Avenue.

The same person might have committed three other robberies, police said: July 14 at a PNC Bank branch in the 7200 block of Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda and two robberies in the 5400 block of Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase -- 9:45 a.m. July 5 at a Chevy Chase Bank branch and 11:16 a.m. July 8 at Provident Bank.

Slaying Sentencing The woman who plotted the robbery that ended in the slaying of former school board member Terry Hairston was sentenced yesterday to 17 years in prison.

In a courtroom packed with her family and Hairston's, Dannielle Wayne, 22, apologized to the mother and sisters of Hairston, who was 38 when he was killed last year. "I would do anything to bring him back, to make it right -- but I can't," she said. "I'm sorry."

On Monday, the woman who fired the fatal shot, Arkeeta Hendrick, was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

On May 15, 2004, Wayne, who knew Hairston, and Hendrick went to Hairston's home in Southeast Washington and, after partying with him, robbed him at gunpoint. Hairston, who was planning a run for D.C. Council, fought back and was shot and killed in the struggle.

Attempted Rapes Arlington County detectives were searching yesterday for a man who they said broke into an apartment in the Arlington Ridge neighborhood and tried to rape two women who were inside.

Police said a man with a black T-shirt tied over his face knocked on the front door of the apartment in the 1400 block of South 28th Street about 11:30 p.m. The women refused to open it, police said, so the man broke in through a window. Wielding a knife, he forced the women into a bedroom, police said, where he fondled them and tried to disrobe one woman.

The attacker fled after a security guard, called to the apartment by a neighbor who heard the commotion, knocked on the door. The intruder was described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 6 inches, 165 pounds and 20 to 25 years old. He was wearing a dark blue T-shirt, dark jeans, sneakers and the black T-shirt over his face.

Authorities asked that anyone with information about the incident call the department's Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS.
