Five Roman Catholic parishes in Montgomery County welcomed new pastors July 1 as part of the church's normal rotation of priests.

At Holy Cross, Garrett Park, Monsignor R. Cary Hill replaces the Monsignor Vincent Gatto, who is retiring.

At St. Andrew the Apostle, Silver Spring, Monsignor Michael Mellone replaces the Rev. Joseph Kennedy, who will remain at the parish as a senior priest.

At St. John Neumann, Gaithersburg, the Rev. Rory Conley replaces Monsignor Michael Fisher. Fisher has been named as the new archdiocesan vicar general for the apostolates.

At. St. Rose of Lima, Gaithersburg, Monsignor Paul Dudziak takes over for the Rev. Robert Duggan as he goes on a sabbatical.

At St. Patrick, Rockville, Monsignor Kevin Hart replaces Monsignor Thomas Kane, who is retiring.

Congregation Beth El will hold Shabbat services for singles at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. A free social gathering follows the services. The newly renovated synagogue is at 8215 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda. 301-652-2606.

St. Mary's Church and Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima will hold its 130th annual chicken dinner and fair from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday. The rain-or-shine event also features a jousting tournament, craft booths, children's games, bingo and other games. Barbecue chicken dinner tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6 to 12, free for age 5 and younger. Boxed dinners are also available. Rabbi Samuel Scolnic will discuss the Dead Sea Scrolls at 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Aug. 29, at the Ring House Auditorium, 1801 E. Jefferson St., Rockville. The free five-week series is sponsored by the Board of Jewish Education. 301-816-5009.

St. Raphael's Church will host the Potomac Chapter of DRADA (Depression and Related Affective Disorders Association) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in its Parish Hall.
