The OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program, sponsored by the Friendship Heights Lord & Taylor department store, seeks volunteers to work with District and Montgomery County students in grades K-3 in reading at 18 area schools. Students Practicing and Respecting Knowledge seeks volunteer tutors to help students with their homework. Volunteers are asked to make a three-month commitment to tutor one evening a week from 6:30 to 8 at the Ken-Gar Community Center in Kensington. The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington seeks docents to give guided tours of the museum. Training is provided, and no previous experience is required. Interages needs volunteers to work with children at schools throughout the county. Volunteers provide friendship, encouragement, and help with reading, word games and cultural activities. The Montgomery County Council seeks applicants from qualified voters to serve on the Merit System Protection Board. Members serve three-year terms with compensation.
