Volunteer Recognition

Nominations are being accepted through Aug. 17 for the county's annual volunteer recognition program. Individuals, community groups and businesses who volunteer will be honored during a ceremony with County Executive James N. Robey on Sept. 21. One of the nominees will be selected to represent Howard County in the annual statewide "Maryland You Are Beautiful" program to be held in Annapolis in November. College Center Information

The Laurel College Center, a partnership between Howard Community College and Prince George's Community College, will host a drop-in information session from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at LCC, 312 Marshall Ave., Laurel.

The program will include a tour of the center, a talk with academic and financial aid advisers, and information on how to register for credit or noncredit classes.

Classes will begin Aug. 29.

Free Job Workshops

The Columbia Workforce Center continues to provide free workshops for job seekers this month. The workshops will focus on networking strategies and interviewing techniques and will provide critiques of resumes and information about the federal job search process.
