Studying at Johns Hopkins

Johns Hopkins University will host several sessions to acquaint prospective students with the master's degree and certificate programs available at its Montgomery County campus.

The Graduate Division of Business and Management registration and application workshop will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, 800-468-6548; the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences registration session will be 4-6:30 p.m. Aug. 17, 301-294-7162; information sessions for a master of arts in teaching and a master of arts in special education will be held every half hour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23, 301-294-7040; the Bloomberg School of Public Health information and registration program will be 5-7 p.m. Aug. 25, 301-294-7060; and registration for the Whiting School of Engineering's applied science programs for professionals will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 30.

All of the events will be at 9601 Medical Center Dr., Rockville.

International Students Day

Gaithersburg's Multicultural Affairs Committee and the International Student Admissions Office of Montgomery County Public Schools has scheduled an international students open house for 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Rocking Horse Road Center, 4910 Macon Rd., Rockville. International students can obtain information on policies for admission to the public school system and information about the services provided by Gaithersburg to its residents.

Community and faith-based organizations, government agencies, community advocates, Montgomery County Public Schools employees and families interested in the enrollment process are encouraged to attend. Call 301-230-0686.

Pre-K, Head Start Openings

The Montgomery County public schools' pre-kindergarten and Head Start programs are accepting applications for their remaining openings. In addition to education, the programs provide access to health care, dental care, nutrition and family support services.

To be eligible for the free programs, a child must be 4 by Sept. 1 and meet income eligibility requirements. Pre-kindergarten classes are scheduled for 21/2 hours per day, Head Start classes for 31/2 hours. Four full-day classes are held at child care centers in Silver Spring, Rockville and Germantown.

Family Life Panel Forming

The Montgomery County Board of Education is seeking applicants to serve on its new Family Life and Human Development Advisory Committee, which will make recommendations on the school system's health and sex education curriculum.

Organizations are invited to nominate individuals by submitting one nominee and two alternates along with a mission statement on the organization's official letterhead.
