Blood Drive Assistance
The American Red Cross is urgently seeking volunteers to assist blood drives in and around La Plata and Waldorf. Volunteers assist donors during shifts of about five hours. A commitment of five hours a month is requested. Volunteers must be at least 14, have transportation and be available during the day on weekdays.

St. Mary's Evening School
The St. Mary's County public schools' evening high school will begin classes Sept. 14 for the first semester of the 2005-06 school year.
Registration is scheduled from 3:45 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6-8 in the Evening High School Office in Area F of Leonardtown High School.
St. Mary's County students younger than 21 must pay a nonrefundable $35 registration fee plus $15 per course. The fee for St. Mary's County residents older than 21 is $50 plus $25 for each course. Courses are open only to St. Mary's County residents.
Regularly scheduled classes will meet 3:45-5:40 p.m. or 5:45-7:40 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays at Leonardtown High School. Students may register for up to four classes per semester.
Students should meet with a high school guidance counselor before registration. Course enrollment will determine whether a particular class is offered. For more information, call 301-475-5511, Ext. 169.
Hospice Receives $1,550
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8810 of Waldorf has presented Hospice of Charles County with a $1,550 donation. Post 8810 raised the money during its sixth-annual miniature golf tournament in May.

Classic Car Show, Crafts
A classic car show and crafts bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17 in Charlotte Hall will benefit Alternatives for Youth and Families, a nonprofit organization serving youths and families in the tri-county area.
Organizers said they expect 75 to 100 classic cars, trucks and motorcycles to compete for trophies.
