Raffle Benefits Hospice

Hospice of the Chesapeake Auxiliary, the fundraising arm of the nonprofit hospice and bereavement care center, is selling raffle tickets to raise money for various hospice programs. Tickets are $5 each, five for $20 or 10 for $30 and can be purchased at A Blooming Basket Flowers and Gifts, 8378 Veterans Hwy., Millersville; Mercado and Associates Jewelers, 504 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park; Thomas D. Scardina Hair, Skin and Nail Salon, 566 Benfield Rd., Severna Park; and Diehl's Produce, Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and McKinsey Road, Severna Park. Participants could win tickets to performances by the Annapolis Chorale, Annapolis Opera, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Arundel Vocal Arts Society or Colonial Players of Annapolis. Theater tickets also come with restaurant gift certificates. The money raised will be used for the construction of Mandarin Hospice House in Harwood, child and teen bereavement camp scholarship programs and the hospice's Agape fund, which gives financial support to family members of hospice patients. Secondhand-Smoke Perils

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health recently published a brochure exploring the dangers of secondhand smoke. The publication, "Secondhand Smoke is Deadly: Protect Your Family and Friends," lists dangers of secondhand exposure and provides tips on preventing such exposure. Prescription Assistance

Residents who need help with the cost of prescription medication can get help through the Anne Arundel County Department of Health's Prescription Discount Program. Participants receive discount cards through ScriptSave, a company that provides an average of 21 percent off the cost of prescription medication. The cards can be used at participating pharmacies and through mail-order services. Participants of any age and income level can use the cards to save on brand-name and generic prescription drugs, eye exams, eyewear and contact lenses, hearing exams, hearing supplies, diabetes and respiratory supplies and home medical equipment and supplies. The discount cards cannot be used in conjunction with any other prescription discount card or personal insurance card. Free Immunizations

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will offer free immunizations for county children at health centers throughout August. Parents may call for appointments or attend walk-in clinics. Walk-in clinics are available at the following times and locations:
