Authorities have arrested one man and are looking for two others in connection with a robbery and shooting Friday in Indian Head.

The shooting took place behind an abandoned store in the 4600 block of Indian Head Highway about 2 p.m., said Kristen Adkins, spokeswoman for the Charles County Sheriff's Office. A witness saw several men walk together behind the store, then heard a single gunshot and saw a man fall to the ground, according to charging documents.

The victim, Christopher Juliano, 25, of Indian Head, was shot once in the back. He was flown for treatment to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The hospital said he was released the next day.

Three suspects -- Charles M. Shorter Jr., 21, of Indian Head; Joseph T. Thompson, 23, of no fixed address; and a 15-year-old La Plata boy -- have been identified by police.

Shorter was arrested Friday and has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and one count of using a handgun in the commission of a felony.

Thompson has not been found, and Adkins said he should be considered armed and dangerous. Thompson is wanted on an attempted first-degree murder charge, the sheriff's office said. The 15-year-old boy hasn't been formally charged, Adkins said.

Adkins said Juliano hadn't known Shorter for very long -- just about 24 hours, she estimated -- but when Juliano met up with these three men, an argument started.

A half-hour after the shooting, Shorter called the Charles County Sheriff's Office to give himself up on the 200 block of Bertha Circle in Indian Head. In an interview with Deputy George Higgs that afternoon, Shorter acknowledged being at the scene of the shooting but said he was not involved and was not the person who pulled the trigger, according to charging documents.

Charles M. Shorter Jr., 21, above, was arrested; Joseph T. Thompson, 23, below, is sought.
