Akita Held in Schnauzer's Death

CHELTENHAM, Marlboro Woods Dr., 10000 block, July 19. A large dog reportedly killed an adult male standard schnauzer and was running loose. Police requested assistance from Animal Management. An animal control officer picked up a 1-year-old male, cream and sable Akita. The dog was impounded and held under quarantine. The case was continuing.

Dog Left Behind in Eviction

OXON HILL, Southern Ave., 1400 block, July 19. A dog was locked in an apartment bathroom and left behind following an eviction. An animal control officer picked up the 1-year-old, female cream and black Akita and took it to the shelter. The owner claimed the dog after paying $125 in fines and fees.

Strays Returned to Owners

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Millsboro Ct., 2600 block, July 19. An animal control officer picked up a stray, 3-year-old male Jack Russell terrier. It had a current license; the information was used to return it to the owner.

BRANDYWINE, Westwood Rd., 14800 block, July 19. An animal control officer picked up a large stray dog being held in a yard at a residence. The 2-year-old male Rottweiler was returned to its owner.

Mastiff Caught Between Fences

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Mane Lane, July 19. A mastiff was stuck between two fences in a small space behind a school. The dog's breathing reported to be very shallow, and it appeared to be injured. A resident called later to say that the dog had been freed and was not injured.

Dogs and Cats Available

The Prince George's County SPCA/Humane Society will offer dog adoptions from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Petsmart, 5154 Nicholson Lane, Kensington; and cat adoptions from noon to 3 p.m. at Petco, 6181 Old Dobbin Lane, Columbia.
