More Commuter Parking

A new park-and-ride lot is scheduled to open tomorrow in Sterling.

Galilee United Methodist Church has provided 48 spaces to the county for commuter parking on its lot at 45425 Winding Rd.

Loudoun County Transit buses will pick up passengers at the lot weekday mornings at 5:11, 5:41, 6:01, 6:36 and 7:01 and take them to the West Falls Church Metro station. The buses will make six return trips from West Falls Church arriving at the lot between 4:44 and 7:19 p.m. Each trip will take about 50 minutes.

The stop is an extension of the Cascades/Lowes Island to West Falls Church route that has been operated for more than three years.

Tickets cost $1.50 one way. A book of 10 one-way tickets costs $12.50.

Fumigation Caused Blast

An explosion Thursday at the Manor Apartments on Fort Evans Road in Leesburg was caused by a resident fumigating without turning off the gas to the apartment, Loudoun County fire and rescue officials said.

The explosion caused about $10,000 in damage. No one was injured, but a family of three was displaced and will stay with relatives until repairs are completed.
