James E. Chappell of Severna Park, a board-certified plastic surgeon, was elected president of the John Staige Davis Society of Plastic Surgeons of Maryland. Chappell received a medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and completed a surgery residency at Fletcher Allen Health Care medical center in Vermont. Chappell is a member of the medical staff at Anne Arundel Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical System.

Kathleen Conner McCollum was appointed to the board of directors of Hospice of the Chesapeake, a nonprofit hospice and bereavement care center with offices in Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. McCollum, of Millersville, is vice president of the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie and is in charge of business development, marketing and public relations. She also oversees the hospital's Tate Cancer Center and Joslin Diabetes Center. McCollum has also worked for the University of Maryland Medical System and the Institute of Human Virology.

Claire Lyn Smith of Centreville was appointed acting dean of Anne Arundel Community College's School of Health Professions, Wellness and Physical Education. Smith came to the college in 2000 as the department chair of the radiologic technology program. In 2003 she also became director of the col-lege's medical assisting, medical coding, phlebotomy and pharmacy technician programs. Smith has a bachelor's and master's degree in education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
