Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to a new school year. As the new superintendent of Prince William County public schools, I am honored to be a part of this excellent school division and to bring my wife and young daughter to this beautiful and historic area of our great country. For those of you new to Prince William, welcome to this dynamic, progressive county.

Edward L. Kelly, who was superintendent of schools for 18 years before retiring, left a legacy of excellence. My goal is to continue that journey through a steadfast focus on teaching and learning.

Over the summer, I visited classrooms and offices and held many conversations with students and staff. Prince William has the potential to become a world-class school division. I am immensely impressed with what I have seen and the people I have met.

Our teachers are truly excited about teaching, the administrators are ready to lead, and our support staff are ready to help. Their enthusiasm will be the key to engaging their students and your children in exciting learning opportunities. Our Prince William County School Board members and our entire staff are committed to providing an excellent education for your children, in a safe and caring environment.

As parents/guardians, I ask for your active support and involvement in the educational experience of your children. Please help your children develop and maintain a love and respect for lifelong learning. Before school begins, please review with your child expected behavior in school, the importance of attendance, homework, a balanced schedule and teamwork.

Working together, my hope is that this year will be a rewarding and exciting one for you and your children. I look forward to the coming year and to working with you as we continue our educational journey.

Steven L. Walts
