State Troopers on Tour
Col. Thomas E. "Tim" Hutchins, secretary of Maryland State Police, along with dozens of troopers, will provide public safety information Tuesday, Wednesday and next Thursday in Southern Maryland as part of the statewide 2005 Trooper Tour. The free event will feature a demonstration of theft prevention tips with the Vehicle Theft Prevention Council's "hot car." Fire marshals and state police officers will display equipment and demonstrate what they do in the field. The tour makes the following stops:
* St. Mary's County -- 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Government Center, 23115 Leonard Hall Dr., Leonardtown;
* Calvert County -- 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Prince Frederick Armory, 195 Armory Rd., in Prince Frederick;
* Charles County -- 6-8:30 p.m. next Thursday, Wal-Mart, 40 Drury Dr., La Plata.
Star of the Sea Principal
The Archdiocese of Washington recently announced that Joan G. McCabe is the new interim principal at St. Mary Star of the Sea School in Indian Head. She has served for the past five years as a fourth-grade teacher at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in the District. She is completing a master's degree from New York University.
Lisa Lewis of Waldorf was selected as one of five finalists in Ocean City's FAM-tastic Family Contest, which is being put on to celebrate the city's 130th anniversary. The contest seeks the best story about a fun experience at the beach resort. Lewis has been visiting Ocean City for almost 50 years, including 27 with her husband.
The Sheriff's Office Retirement Plan board of trustees meeting today has been rescheduled to noon. The meeting, which is to interview bidders for the investment consultant position, will be held in room 14 of the St. Mary's County Governmental Center at 23115 Leonard Hall Dr. in Leonardtown.
Race Volunteers Sought
Group and individual volunteers are needed Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 to assist with the 2005 Army Ten Miler race at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington.
