McLean Center Budget

To Be Topic of Meetings

Residents of Dranesville Small Tax District 1, which includes the McLean area, are invited to the McLean Community Center's work session on its fiscal 2007 budget at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7.

The center is supported by a special real estate tax paid by residents of the district. The current rate is 2.8 cents for each $100 of assessed value. Residents who have suggestions, comments or concerns will have an opportunity to talk about them at the session.

Those who call the center to say they plan to attend will receive a budget package when they arrive.

A public hearing on the fiscal 2007 budget, along with the regular monthly meeting of the governing board, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28. Residents who want to speak at that meeting or the Sept. 7 meeting should call 703-790-0123.

Environmental Educator

Appointed to Parks Board

The county Board of Supervisors has appointed Judy Braus to the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority's board of directors.

A longtime environmental education expert, Braus is director of education for the World Wildlife Fund.

Adult Ed Program Plans

Exams for Course Credit

The apprenticeship program of the county school system's Office of Adult and Community Education will offer credit-by-exam testing from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Centreville Adult Center.

The exams allow students with prior specialized training who plan to enter an apprenticeship program to get credit for beginning-level courses.

Exams are offered annually for air conditioning, architectural woodworking, barbering, building maintenance, carpentry, cosmetology, electricity, fire-sprinkler fitting, floor covering, insulation installation, locksmithing, painting, plumbing, sheet metal work and surveying.

Placement exams for glazier, machinist, millwright, nail technician and optician training are also available.
