$15,000 Donation Aids
College Scholarship Fund
The Wachovia Foundation, which is funded by the Wachovia Corp., has awarded $15,000 to Prince George's Community College to establish a scholarship for students with financial need and academic and leadership promise.
The funds have been added to the college's Major Gift Campaign, the first of its kind in the college's 46-year history. The campaign is designed to help the college meet the needs of a changing community.
Homeless Students Get
Vouchers for Clothes
Forman Mills Inc., a retailer of low-priced clothes, and its uniform supplier Longstreet Inc. donated $6,000 in vouchers to 200 homeless students to help them prepare for the school year.
Students and parents who live in homeless shelters were greeted with music and refreshments when they arrived at the Forman Mills store at Iverson Mall last week to shop for clothes. Representatives of the county's public schools, with the help of the county's Social Services Department, identified students eligible to receive vouchers.
