Bereavement Support

Hospice of the Chesapeake's Spiritual and Bereavement Care Center is offering a six-week bereavement support group for widows and widowers younger than 50. The group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday from Sept. 15 to Oct. 20 at Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis. The registration deadline is Sept. 8. Ecology-Friendly Gardens

Anne Arundel County master gardeners are available to help Chesapeake Bay watershed residents create environmentally-friendly gardens designed to improve the overall ecology of the bay area. Master gardeners educate residents about gardening techniques and landscaping practices that create effective and sustainable horticulture. Theater for Children

The Children's Theatre of Annapolis is seeking participants for its fall 2005 workshop.

"Wonderland," a musical theater workshop led by Tiffany Shannon, is for children ages 8 to 18. The workshop covers various aspects of show production, including auditioning, acting, vocals, dance, costumes and sets. The workshop will close with a performance of "Alice in Wonderland" on Dec. 3. Workshop sessions will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 14 through Nov. 20. Registration is $250 for theater members, $260 for nonmembers. Siblings may receive additional discounts.

"Wee-wannabees" is for children ages 6 and 7 who want to learn about singing, dancing, acting and auditioning. Classes will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Oct. 10, 17 and 24. A performance will be held during the last session. Registration is $45 for members, $55 for nonmembers.

In "Script to Stage," presented by Katy Schronce, children ages 8 to 14 will work together to write scripts and perform. This workshop will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 11 through 27. A performance will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28. Registration is $100 for members, $110 for nonmembers.

Arts Council Grants

Arts-related organizations seeking financing for fiscal year 2007 have until Oct. 6 to apply to the Maryland State Arts Council's Grants for Organizations program. The council will offer an application-information session from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Round House Theatre's education center in Silver Spring. The council will hold two other information sessions, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Dorchester Arts Center in Cambridge and from 10 a.m.-noon on Sept. 17 at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore. The sessions are free and open to the public. Grants are available for arts organizations that sponsor programs and services in the following categories: children's events, dance, folk and traditional arts, literature, media, music, theater and visual arts.
