Women Shot Two women were wounded by stray gunfire yesterday morning at a bus stop in Southeast Washington, police said.
The women, 71 and 26, were in the 600 block of Chesapeake Street SE when they were hit about 10 a.m., police said. The older woman was hit in the thigh, and the younger woman was grazed on the left leg, police said.
The women, who were not identified because police consider them witnesses, were taken to Howard University Hospital, where they were in stable condition, police said. Police said the women might have been caught in the crossfire of two groups of young men. They urged anyone with information to call detectives at 202-727-9099.
DWI Arrest A Northeast Washington man was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and aggravated assault after a crash early yesterday that critically injured two women on a motor scooter, police said.
The women -- Kathryn Hambrice, 35, of no known address and Kelly Harris, 36, of New York City -- were taken to George Washington University Hospital, police said.
Police said Christopher E. Williams, 32, of the 1200 block of Hamlin Street NE was arrested at the scene.
Williams was driving a Mercedes west on Massachusetts Avenue NW about 2:45 a.m. when he ran a red light at 18th Street NW near Dupont Circle, police said. He struck the motor scooter, which was making a left turn onto Massachusetts from the southbound lanes of 18th Street, police said.
* A Southeast Washington man was found fatally shot early yesterday in Northeast, D.C. police said. James P. Harris, 31, of the 2700 block of Langston Place SE was found in the 4500 block of Quarles Street NE about 12:40 a.m., police said. Police urged anyone with information to call 202-727-9099.
