Montgomery County police are trying to identify a pedestrian who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident -- and to find the driver responsible for hitting him.
The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of Veirs Mill Road in Rockville, according to Lt. Eric Burnett, a police spokesman.
The victim was a Hispanic male, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds, police said. He had a medium complexion with short, dark, curly hair, brown eyes and two to three days' growth of facial hair.
He was wearing a black T-shirt with "Thunder on the Trinity 2002" on it and brown sandals with two straps across the top and black soles.
Police said the victim was trying to cross Veirs Mill Road at Midway Avenue when he was struck.
Authorities have not yet estimated the speed of the vehicle. The posted speed limit is 40 mph at the intersection, which does not have a crosswalk or traffic light, Burnett said.
The driver left the scene in a brown or burgundy 1983 to 1989 Oldsmobile Brougham-style sedan, which was missing one of the "Brougham" emblems, according to police.
They said the car would have significant damage to the front end and the windshield on the passenger side.
The victim was taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, where he died of his injuries.
