A Glen Burnie 16-year-old was being held yesterday in the Anne Arundel Detention Center on charges related to the fatal stabbing of another teenager in the parking lot of a Glen Burnie mall Saturday night.

Anne Arundel police said the victim, Kevin M. Weingart, 17, also of Glen Burnie, was at Marley Station with five or six friends. That group and another similarly sized one began arguing, and a fight in the parking lot ensued. Weingart was stabbed once in the upper torso with a knife, according to police. He was taken by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead about 11 p.m.

In the mall's parking lot, police interviewed witnesses, who identified Brandon Iam Kellam as the suspect. Police later found Kellam at his home and arrested him. He was charged as an adult with second-degree murder. A jail official said Kellam was being held without bond yesterday. A woman who answered the phone at Kellam's home expressed sorrow over the situation. "I can't believe this happened," she said, declining to comment further.

Charmaine Lawrence, general manager of the mall on Ritchie Highway, said records indicate that the altercation did not begin inside the mall. She said she couldn't recall such an incident there before. "This certainly was an isolated incident," she said.

The investigation is continuing.
