Wills, Medical Directives
Hospice of the Chesapeake's auxiliary will hold its quarterly meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hospice headquarters at 445 Defense Hwy. in Annapolis. A panel of legal and medical experts will discuss living wills and advance directives. The meeting is open to the public, and lunch will be served. Reservations are required. Queen Anne's County Arts Council is offering one-on-one guitar lessons for all ages and skill levels. Musician Glenn Shiring will teach acoustic, electric, bass or slide guitar to people who want to learn how to play or improve their skills. Four-week sessions begin Sept. 16. The Anne Arundel County Fair is accepting applications for its fair ambassador contest through 5 p.m. tomorrow. Contestants must be 16 to 20 years old through last Thursday, a resident of Anne Arundel County for at least one year, and single and without children, and have maintained at least a B average in school. Educational scholarships will be awarded to the winner and first and second place runners-up. A non-refundable entry free of $35, two wallet-sized photos and a copy of the applicant's latest report card or transcript must accompany the registration. Applications are available at www.aacountyfair.org. The selection will be made at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the county fair.
Writers Group Meeting
Maryland Writers' Association will hold its monthly meeting from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Room 300, 801 Chase St. in Annapolis. The lecture topic, "Brainstorming Through Your Blockages," is intended to provide attendees with strategies for moving past writer's block with novels, short stories or screenplays. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet one on one with professional writers for five- or 10-minute sessions. Nonmembers, $5. www.marylandwriters.org.
Power Boating Course
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Annapolis is offering a 13-week basic power boating course from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Wednesday. The class will be held at Annapolis Senior High School at 2700 Riva Rd. in Annapolis. Students can learn the fundamentals of safe boating, including the required safety equipment and right-of-way rules. $40. To register, call 410-956-6979.
