Coach: John Davis (10th season, 62-34).
Last Year: 7-3 overall, 7-2 league.
Last postseason appearance/state title: 2004/none.
Returning starters on offense/defense: 9/10.
Players to watch: FB/LB Stephen Bullard, Sr.; OG/LB Andy Curley, Jr.; RB/LB Ricky Hanna, Sr.; TE/DE Evan Kay, Sr.; RB/DB Blake Mullinix, Sr.; QB/DB Billy West, Jr.
Run with it: Glenelg has six running backs -- led by Mullinix (666 yards, six touchdowns) and Bullard (616 yards, eight TDs) -- and both could again finish with more than 500 yards. The double-wing offense returns its entire line -- led by senior guard Matt Abbott, junior tackle Eric Hutchinson and senior tackle Jay Komsa -- which bodes well for a team that has rushed for more than 3,000 yards in each of the past four seasons.
Ballcarriers beware: The 5-0 defense might be the best unit during Davis's tenure. Linebackers Nick Natale, a senior, Hanna, Curley and Bullard (73 tackles, two interceptions) will make it hard on running backs -- if they even make it past a defensive line that includes junior defensive tackle Sam Knott and defense end Kay.
What Davis first looks for in a player: "If he's an athlete and if he can listen and do what you ask of him. You can't have a selfish player. I want a disciplined player because a disciplined team can beat a talented team if the talented team is undisciplined."
