Past five seasons: 5-5

Starters back: Five on offense, three on defense

The Breakdown

With underclassmen filling several critical roles, Huntingtown's roster looks like that of a second-year school. But given the large number of seniors who filled those roles last season, it almost looks like the Hurricanes are rebuilding already.

A whopping 147 players are in the Huntingtown program (surpassed in the SMAC only by Westlake's 150), but only eight are seniors. The Hurricanes retained 56 of the 70 freshmen who came out last season, and the large majority of them make up the junior varsity program. Fifty-five more freshmen came out this season. Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, only 11 can play at a time.

Senior Alan Clark seems to have the edge over three others competing for the quarterback job. Senior Ryan Edwards (Chopticon transfer) is among a throng of tailbacks seeking to run behind fullbacks Dan Davidson and David Bowen. With so much depth and so few positions defined, Franks said most slots could be up for grabs each week.

Franks is hoping his linemen are the Hurricanes' most reliable asset. Senior Sean Devore and juniors Jack Cholak and Gene McKenzie saw plenty of playing time last season.

It will be much easier watching a game at Huntingtown this season. The Hurricanes have a scoreboard now, so officials won't be the only ones who know how much time is on the clock.
