Coach: Scott Chadwick, fourth season
Region: 3A South
Past five seasons: 41-17, two playoff appearances
Starters back: Six on offense, five on defense
Although nearly all of Lackey's core players of the past two seasons graduated in June, the Chargers return all-conference-caliber players across the field.
Senior quarterback Aaron Smith had a terrific rookie season last year, throwing for 1,707 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has the conference's top returning receiver in senior Greg Bowman (23 catches, 451 yards, 7 touchdowns). Senior Bryan Gibbons became a critical offensive weapon in the playoffs, catching nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns then. He will also take over leadership of the defense in his third year starting at linebacker. Gibbons is also a standout on special teams coverage.
Senior Dante Page was an all-SMAC cornerback and showed he is more than capable at returning punts. Now, he will step in as the Chargers' No. 2 receiver, too. Helping him in the defensive backfield is a McNamara transfer, senior Shawn Frazier.
Senior J.B. Walton will take over leadership of both the offensive and defensive lines. He'll have help, though. The Chargers' offensive front averages 6 feet 1 and 273 pounds per man. Senior Demetrius Ray and junior Brandon Somerville are returning starters on the right side of the line.
